The box of tapes
A couple years ago, my father, Doug Gilmore, the son of "Red", gave me a box of audio tapes and asked me to attempt to convert them to CDs.
The tapes were a series of stories and reminiscings recorded by Red as he was driving on one of his many long trips. As I listened to them, I was quickly enthralled hearing about my grandfather's life, his family, and his experience. It was immediately obvious how important it was to save and share these recordings.
Shortly after, copies of the CD's were passed out to all of Frank's children so they could listen and share the experiences. This blog is an extension of that. Starting with the original recordings, I'll be posting mp3 versions with comments and possibly transcripts for everyone to enjoy.
I recently purchased a digital voice recorder for Frank to take on road and record more stories. After I showed him how to operate the thing, Frank asked what I'd like him to talk about. I told him "anything you want to talk about", but I don't think he felt that was an acceptable answer. I hoping that those reading this blog will leave comments, giving Frank some topics they'd like him to talk about.
Please share this blog with family and friends, and email me with any comments or suggestions hapgilmore@hotmail.com
